Chic Lotz, Artist & Teacher 


Chic has worked with clay as a artist and teacher for 45 years. She was director of the Ceramics Department at the Marietta Parks and Recreation in Atlanta, GA for

10 years. After moving to Grass Valley, CA she opened her own ceramics  school, The Potter’s Wheel, and has exhibited in galleries around the country. Chic also taught for 7 years at the Mud Hut Ceramics Center in Nevada City. In 2014 she opened a 1,100 sq. ft. studio for teaching and creating her own work. 


Chic is also one of the few “Glaze Experts” that teach glaze chemistry by traveling to Art Centers, Colleges and Potter's Guilds around the US. and Canada. She also does a week long Glaze Chemistry Basics workshop in her home studio every summer and 2 Throwing Workshops.

Exhibitions and galleries


During the 1980's, while living in Atlanta, Georgia, Chic exhibited in numerous art festivals and exhibitions in the Southeast.  Her work could also be found in a dozen galleries around the country, most notably the Carneige Museum Gift Shop and the Frank Lloyd Wright Falling Water Gift Shop in Pennsylvania, the Savannah College of Art & Design Gift Shop in Georgia, and the Del Mano Gallery in California. 

 

After moving to Grass Valley, CA., Chic begun to build her exhibition schedule here on the west coast.  Her work was chosen for the Aftosa Merit Award in the 2003 California Clay Competition.  A ChicBird Teapot was chosen for the Oregon Potter’s Guild Teapot Competition for exhibition during the 2005 National Council on Education for the Ceramics Arts Conference in Portland Oregon. 

She exhibited her wood fired pieces in the 2022 NCECA as part of the Sierra Foothils Ceramic Artists exhibit.


Her platters are included in two books: Making Marks by Robin Hopper and the Lark Book, 500 Platters.
